Research Article: Young Children and Infants Read to By Parents Have Stronger Vocabulary Skills

For several years now, awareness campaigns like First 5’s “Talk. Read. Sing.” have emphasized the importance of reading to young children to support early language and literacy. A 2019 study from Rutgers University provides further research to support this: “[t]he study found that shared reading with children at 1 year old was associated with higher vocabulary scores on a standardized assessment at age 3, in line with previous published studies.” Read more about the study and its implications on the Rutgers website here:
