The US Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service offers a colorful infographic to share with families, Reducing the Risk of Choking in Young Children at Mealtimes. Aimed at families with children under the age of four, this resource stresses the importance of adult supervision, offers tips on food prep, warns about foods to avoid or handle with extra care, and suggests a set of ”good eating habits” parents can teach their little ones. It’s bright and engaging and definitely fridge-worthy! There’s also a quiz at the end to test your learning. Bookmark the site and/or print it out to have on hand because children with developmental disabilities, including those served in Early Start, can have an increased risk of choking due to a variety of factors related to disability conditions. We can never be too prepared when it comes to food safety.
